Questions

How do I activate my key?

Click Janitor in the menu bar, choose Start free week, paste the key under “Already bought Janitor?” and click Activate. One key works on 3 Macs.

Will it close something I'm still using?

Only things idle past your limits, never the app or window in front of you, and never an app with unsaved changes. The first day is learning mode, so you see every would-be action before anything closes.

Which browsers does it work with?

Chrome and Chrome Canary out of the box. Safari is opt-in, because AppleScript can't tell its private windows apart. Janitor never launches a browser that isn't already running.

What permissions does it ask for?

Accessibility to see window titles and which window you're using. Automation for each browser to read and close tabs. Full Disk Access to read the Trash, and access to Downloads. Each one is optional: without it, Janitor just does less.

Can I undo a sweep?

Closed tabs can be restored for 30 days and quit apps reopened from the log. Old Downloads go to the Trash first. Stopped processes and deleted caches can't come back, and the log says so before and after.

Can I pause it?

Skip the next sweep, pause for an hour, until tomorrow, or until you resume. All from the menu bar.

Where are my settings and history kept?

On your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/Janitor: your rules, what was in use when, and the run log.

Does Janitor send my data anywhere?

No analytics or crash reports. It goes online only to check your license with Polar, to run speed tests against Apple's servers, and to look up your public IP when you click Show. The privacy page has the details.
